Location Permissions
activTrac requires "Allow all the time" location permission to accurately track your outdoor activities.
Why We Need This Permission
As a GPS-based activity tracker, activTrac needs continuous access to your location to:
- Track your route accurately during activities
- Calculate distance, speed, and elevation changes
- Continue tracking even when the app is in the background or your screen is off
- Provide accurate statistics for your completed activities
Android
To enable location permissions on Android:
- Open your device Settings
- Go to Apps > activTrac
- Tap Permissions > Location
- Select "Allow all the time"
Note: On Android 10 and later, you may need to grant "Allow all the time" permission manually in settings after initially selecting "Allow only while using the app."
iOS
To enable location permissions on iOS:
- Open the Settings app
- Scroll down and tap activTrac
- Tap Location
- Select "Always"
Note: iOS may initially only show "While Using" as an option. After using the app for a short time, you will receive a prompt asking to allow "Always" access, or you can change this in Settings.
Troubleshooting
GPS Not Working or Inaccurate Tracking
- Check location permissions: Ensure activTrac has "Allow all the time" (Android) or "Always" (iOS) location access.
- Enable high-accuracy mode: On Android, go to Settings > Location and enable "High accuracy" mode.
- Wait for GPS signal: It may take a few moments for your device to acquire a GPS signal, especially in areas with limited sky visibility.
- Restart your device: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve GPS issues.
- Check for obstructions: GPS works best with a clear view of the sky. Dense tree cover, tall buildings, or being indoors can affect signal quality.
App Crashes or Freezes
- Update the app: Make sure you have the latest version of activTrac installed.
- Restart the app: Close activTrac completely and reopen it.
- Clear app cache (Android): Go to Settings > Apps > activTrac > Storage > Clear Cache.
- Check available storage: Ensure your device has sufficient free storage space.
Activity Not Saving
- Ensure you end the activity properly: Always use the stop button within the app to end your tracking session.
- Check storage permissions: Make sure activTrac has permission to save data on your device.
- Don't force close: Avoid force-closing the app while an activity is being tracked.
Battery Drain
- This is normal: GPS tracking requires continuous location updates, which does consume battery.
- Tips to reduce drain: Lower screen brightness, close other apps, and consider carrying a portable charger for long activities.
- Battery saver modes: Some battery saver modes may interfere with GPS tracking. Consider disabling them during activities.
